Diversity is the key. Managers must ensure they have at least one member on board who can handle tough situations. Almost all managers want their team to exhibit great ideas representing their organization at all levels. But how well do you understand your team members? Building a winning team is not an easy job. The manager himself must possess leadership qualities, and managers with such capabilities and valor have the potential to deliver improved business outcomes.
Do you need to hire people who’re more than just rock stars?
Building a winning team takes more than just hiring talented people or rock stars. Business professionals need to understand that it takes more than talent to build a high-performance team. The talent may be there but it isn’t always a guarantee of success. At times the candidates may be very talented but they’re not always a good fit for the organization. However, most of the time, the problem lies in the manager’s inability to align their team’s talent according to the organization’s mission.
As a manager, you must build the strategic sweet spot of a company. This is possible given the right development of the business strategy framework.
You must first be able to show people attributes like: –
- The strategy for getting here
- Why this can be the best strategy
- Vision for the organization’s future
- Milestone to be achieved
Making strategic planning is not a one-time discussion. As a manager, you need to constantly keep reminding your team members what the organization stands for and that working for the firm is not at all at stake.
Bring out people to work together
This is perhaps the toughest task to do. Building a winning team takes a lot of effort. This is much more difficult if the manager is unable to convince the team regarding the advantages. Managers must start encouraging business professionals to take part in the process of hiring new team members. Assign a specific project for two team members to work upon. Taking your teams for an off-site meeting as well as casual get-togethers is a good way to make that bonding happen.
Be aware of team destroyers
Certain people are just cynical by nature. You can’t help it. Others might make you feel that you cannot possibly proper or they can just throw down negative thoughts inside your head. Ensure you’re not affected by their behavior.
There are certain people who lack confidence. They might feel hostile around you. They might attack with statements like, are you saying my ten years of service at this company doesn’t matter?” If there’s such a situation happening around, do not hesitate to point this out at a one-on-one meeting.
A well-defined business strategy framework shows the strength-based leadership a manager needs to possess. It is said that employees who used their strengths every day are 8% more likely to agree that they like what they do daily.
In short, there’s no secret ingredient to a winning team. They are built over time. The core focus lies on the strengths and communication by managers.
