So you’ve decided to ditch the scented body lotions and start wearing perfume on your nights out. You’re ready to go shopping for a new favorite scent, but you’re nervous about whether or not you actually know how to wear perfume in the first place.
We’ve been there. No one wants to be the person who’s suffocating the entire party with overdone perfume, right?
We’re here to help you out. Keep reading to learn a few top tips for wearing perfume.
Find the Right Scent
It’s fun to have a variety of types of perfumes for various occasions, but it’s also a good idea to have a signature scent. This way, everyone knows when you walk into the room and you get to make a serious statement.
When you’re looking for your perfect scent, trial a few perfume options first. You don’t have to pick something right away. Instead, try to identify notes that you’re interested in so you can narrow down your options.
Do you like the idea of a citrusy perfume with underlying floral notes, like Lady Million? What about something with a sweet and youthful candy scent? Maybe you love classic rose-scented perfumes that have stood the test of time.
Visit a few stores and try different perfumes to see which notes work best for you. Even if you plan on buying perfume online, you want to experiment with perfumes that you can smell in person.
Once you’ve found one that feels “right,” you’ve found your signature scent!
Don’t Overdo It
If you haven’t worn much perfume in the past, it’s very easy to overdo it. Remember, you don’t want to fill the entire room with the smell of perfume. You want it to follow you in a more subtle way.
Different perfumes have different strengths. While we tend to use “perfume” as a blanket term for women’s scents, in reality, there are several categories that all have different properties and scent concentrations.
For people who are brand new to perfume, it may be a good idea to get an Eau Fraîche. This scent type only has between 1%-3% perfume concentration, meaning that it’s okay if you use too much.
If you’re comfortable with a stronger concentration, Eau de Parfum is what you’re looking for. This is what we typically think of when “perfume” comes to mind.
It’s helpful to ask friends if they think that you’re overdoing it before you go out.
Use Strategic Application
The way you apply your perfume matters as well!
Perfume lasts longer on skin that has some moisture. Use an unscented moisturizer or body lotion before you spritz on your perfume to make it last all night long.
Put the perfume on warm areas of the body. The wrists, behind the ears, and the neck are all popular. Try not to cover them with clothing if you want the best longevity and results.
Don’t rub the perfume after you apply it.
That’s How to Wear Perfume the Right Way
Figuring out how to wear perfume isn’t a science. There’s no one “right way” to do it, but these tips should help you out if you’re new to picking a favorite scent and wearing it around.
It’s time to go shopping for your new signature scent!
