What is the Use of Nanotechnology in India?

Nanotechnology refers to the manipulation of matter at atomic and molecular levels. It is a branch of material science that involves the study of any structure that has dimensions less than 100 nanometres. It helps scientists to develop completely new kinds of materials like unbreakable glass, highly efficient solar panels and cancer medications.

The fast-paced advancement of technology in the country has led to rapid emergence of nanotechnology in India. The rapid emergence of nanotechnology in India has been spearheaded by major research centers and premier science institutions of the Indian subcontinent. Scientists are working hard to develop various kinds of new and wonderful materials by applying this technology.

However, the main weight of their effort goes into determining whether this technology is safe and sustainable. They are working in order to make sure that the new materials do not cause excess pollution.

There are many new materials that have already been developed by nanotechnology researchers that seem to be straight of sci-fi movies and novels.

Some of the recently found applications and features of nanotechnology are listed below:

  • Cloaking devices: The study of nanotechnology has led scientists to discover a transparent material that refracts certain wavelengths of light in a way that makes certain objects disappear. Sounds like an invisibility cloak is not far away.
  • Bulletproof fabric: There are bulletproof business suits available for purchase which are bulletproof and stab-proof as well. They are made from carbon Nanotubes and have to be sawed into pieces.
  • Organic charging: Nanotechnology can be used to harness energy from beating hearts, tapping fingers or any mechanical activity for that matter. Of fully developed, you will be able to charge your smartphones and tablets just by walking or doing any other physical work.

The main benefits of Nano-tech, however, lie in its medicinal applications. It has been confirmed by scientists that nanotechnology can prove to be a highly effective way of development and application of medicine for highly damaging and certain incurable diseases as well.

Doctors should be moving towards the application of nanotechnology in their treatments as well. Even though its introduction to mainstream hospitals can be a costly affair, they can avail loan for doctors from financial institutions and companies that provide borrower-friendly loans of high value.

Listed below are the areas of application of medical nanotechnology in India that will cause a paradigm shift in the way we perceive procedures like drug administration and medical diagnosis and treatments.

  1. Drug delivery: The effect of nanotechnology in drug delivery is changing the lives of diseased people. People with terminal illnesses can see a lot of benefits.
  • Cancer patients: Nanotechnology in India is providing enormous benefits to people who are dependent on chemo, heat and radiation therapy. It is helping researchers to concentrate radiation and chemo only on the cancer cells reducing side effects.
  • Heart disease: Researchers have been successful in delivering higher amounts of cardiac stem cells to damaged heart tissues by the use of nanotechnology and nanoparticles.
  1. Diagnostics: Nanotechnology has vast implications in the diagnostic field of medicine. It can lead to early detection of diseases like cancer and other terminal illnesses. This could lead to numerous lives being saved. Most cancer patients, who are diagnosed at early stages, have a maximum probability of survival. Another benefit is rapid testing. It can lead to all of your diagnostics and reports being prepared within a single visit to the doctor.
  2. Anti-bacterial and wound treatment: Researchers are working on developing numerous features of nanotechnology and nanoparticles to demonstrate almost miraculous feats in treatment.
  • Anti-bacterial treatment- Researchers have demonstrated that using gold Nanoparticles and infrared lights kill harmful bacteria. Another set of researchers are using quantum dot technology to treat antibiotic-resistant infections.
  • Wound treatment- Researchers in various institutes are working on polymer nanoparticles that act as synthetic blood platelets. They are an effective treatment for wounds that cause internal bleeding.

These are certain features of Nanotechnology that make them a beacon of hope for people with terminal diseases and their families.
